Chesterton Lubricant Solutions Saves Mineral Oil Processing Plant in Waste and Downtime

A mineral oil processing plant which sealed its stainless steel heat transfer oil pipe threads with a low-density PTFE tape experienced regular leakage. The customer wanted a complete sealing solution for all threaded and flanged assemblies. Chesterton 800 GoldEnd® Tape was applied on threaded connections by Chesterton specialists, and Chesterton 860™ Moldable Polymer Gasketing (MPG) was used to eliminated oil leakage. The customer has achieved savings of over $6,500 and improved worker safety.

The customer wanted a complete sealing solution for all threaded and flanged assemblies.
Chesterton 800 GoldEnd® Tape used on threaded connections. The high density 800 GoldEnd® Tape is 300% thicker and does not tear in the thread contact area. Chesterton 860™ Moldable Polymer Gasketing (MPG) is used as gasket for flange connections and has eliminated oil leakage.
Customer has achieved savings of over $8,900 and improved worker safety. Savings include:
- No waste of the thermo oil
- Reduction of several sheet gaskets to one gasket system
- Savings in maintenance man-hour
- Reduction in shut down costs
Customer now uses Chesterton 860 MPG in other sealing applications in the plant.
