A sugar mill was trying to seal heavy slurry (63% solids) in multiple centrifugal pumps. The original packing was deforming under pressure after only three weeks and the mill was unable to control the leakage. Instead, Chesterton DualPac® 2212 packing was installed with the hopes of maintaining a five-week packing life to better seal operation.

Packing was deforming under pressure and the mill was unable to control the leakage. The customer’s goal was to increase the packing life to five weeks to support the existing plant cycle.
Chesterton DualPac® 2212 packing was installed in two pumps side by side. Each pump required five rings of packing installed, as shown below.
DualPac® 2212 packing lasted twice as long as the competitor’s packing. The customer’s expectations were exceeded.
