Gate Valves: High Pressure, and Low to High Temperature Validation Valves
Case study – Chesterton products – Chesterton Spring Energised Seals
A client’s gate valves had to operate to maximum efficiency under extremely challenging circumstances. While competitors seals failed to withstand the load, Chesterton experts recommended our range of Spring Energised Seals. With hands-on service to see the installation process through to the end, our special spring seals got the job done! Needing to pass API 6A PR2 tests, equipment with Chesterton seals passed with flying colours, and the client was satisfied with the end results.
Products featured in the case study:
Our client in China operated under a temperature range of -46°C to 180°C with equipment performing under pressures of up to 20,000psi. This large temperature range and high pressure maximum made it a challenging environment for seals to successfully operate to their full potential.
With a API 6A PR2 requirement, the number of possible seals was limited, and with competitors’ seals failing, the client turned to Chesterton for their products and solutions. Chesterton experts and specialists worked directly with the client to design and successfully install one of our Spring Energised Seals.
Under the specific requirements, the equipment with Chesterton seals passed all tests and measures. Despite the competitiveness from major international brands with local manufacturing and support, our top quality was unbeaten. Chesterton secured the trial order with the customer and continues to develop specialised solutions with great success.
Spring-energised seals typically consist of a polymer jacket and a metallic spring that provides a consistent load throughout the circumference of the seal and creates a leak-tight seal between the jacket and the hardware. The system pressure creates an additional sealing force between the jacket and the hardware. In this combination, the spring forces the seal lips against the gland and rod surfaces, while pressure assists the spring force.
Chesterton Customseal custom-designed, state-of-the-art Spring-Energised Polymeric Seals are precision machined to meet your plant’s exact equipment dimensions to ensure maximum performance. Whether the challenge is sealing harsh chemicals, extreme temperature, speed, or pressures, Chesterton Customseal engineering team will design a high-performance product to meet your specific needs.
