Pulp and Paper Plant Installs DualPac® 2211 Packing in Leaking Stuffing Boxes
Chesterton products – Chesterton DualPac® Packing Technology
A customer working in a pulp and paper causticising plant was struggling with leaking stuffing boxes with competitors’ packing products. With leakage contaminating bearings, it costed the customers time and money replacing and maintaining equipment. A Chesterton expert installed the DualPac® 2211 Packing to extend the packing life and increase efficiency.
Products featured in this case study:
A pulp and paper causticizing plant in Europe has three double-sided screw conveyors transporting very abrasive lime slurry at 122°F (50°C). The rotational speed is 50 rpm.
The stuffing boxes were previously packed with various competitors’ packing products. Leakage usually occurred a few days after installation and the gland needed adjustment.
The leakage contaminates the bearings, which must be replaced annually.
The stuffing boxes were repacked with DualPac® 2211 Packing.
The DualPac® Packing extended the packing life by 4X. The plant saved $657 US/year ($900 AUD/year) less the cost of a product and avoided significant downtime and maintenance.
