A raw corn rail car unloading its chute had severe abrasive wear that required welding or replacement every 6 to 12 months. The impact of the raw maize escaping from the rail car caused the impact and abrasion wear on the unprotected corn chute.

Their goal was to increase the lead time to 24 months and reduce maintenance shutdowns for repairs.

  • Tack weld expanded metal to existing corn rail chute surface.
  • Grit blast to surface 3+ mil angular profile.

Chesterton specialist Applied ARC MX FG at 3/8″ nominal thickness to tack welded metal and blasted chute surfaces.

ARC MX FG is a trowel applied 100% solids, zero VOC, ceramic-reinforced epoxy coating designed for protecting surfaces against dry and wet slurry abrasive flow. This two-part system complies to 21 CFR 175.300 and is suited for direct food contact.​

The main use of ARC MX FG:

  • Protect metal surfaces from extreme sliding-wear and abrasion caused by fine particles
  • Restore worn equipment to near original condition
  • Provide a longer-lasting alternative to rubber linings and ceramic wear tiles
  • Resist a broad pH spectrum

In process: ARC MX FG is being applied to prepare and tack welded surface.
